My freelance offering is evolving

This year’s a double work milestone for me, and I can feel things changing.

The milestones are:
  1. I started working 30 years ago, in 1994
  1. I’ve been independent (freelance/contract) for the last 20 of them
I feel like I should do a ‘30 things I’ve learned’ post, but that’s not really me. You probably don’t even want to hear it either.
What’s more interesting though is that seemingly to coincide with these milestones, I’ve noticed a shift in my freelance work.
It wasn’t really intentional, but I was probably moving towards it subconsciously anyway.
Instead of being focussed on execution of tasks and problem-solving (which I’ve done for a long time), I’m increasingly doing more advising and facilitating design + tech changes clients can do in-house. I’ve even done a bit of coaching.
This shift feels quite fulfilling for me, but it also help clients tap into three decades of expertise and feel more empowered through expert guidance.
I’ve already noticed it’s very useful for a few particular client types:
  1. Non-technical design agencies (brand) needing to offer web updates
  1. Business owners wanting to expand their digital marketing
  1. Marketing pro’s needing design templates set up for them (e.g Canva)

Can you relate to one of these client types or needs? Or know someone who might? I’m likely to write more about this evolution on my newsletter — you can join here.
