I’ve been tinkering a lot with small web prototypes recently. Nothing earth-shattering, just little tools and experiments.
I’ve gone from “I don’t really code” to being able to take an idea, pull together a coded prototype, and actually put it live. With AI help, it’s expanded my range.
It’s not that I’ve suddenly become a developer. I haven’t. I’ve picked up enough technical literacy and confidence to:
- read and tweak code without getting into problems
- design and build small functional prototypes instead of static mockups
- connect how things look with how they actually work
- deploy ideas quickly, instead of leaving them stuck in my notebook
These are all with AI assisted of course. I don’t need to be full-stack. I can design, test, and share ideas in days. That changes the kind of problems I can take on.
I’m starting to see this mix of design sensibility + technical confidence as its own kind of power. It’s not about chasing code mastery.
It’s about solving problems, faster and more visibly than before.
So far I’ve mostly used code and technical assistance from ChatGPT and Claude, but ultimately tools that handle it for you, like Bolt and Lovable, are probably next on my list.
My most recent prototype?
It’s a stock price display widget. A web page where you can select a stock to display visually full screen, with the latest data. Could be useful if you want a large display on one screen.
It’s nothing grand, it’s about taking an idea, wiring it up, and deploy it in a day.
